“They went in and collected him, completely undramatic,” said Per Wahlström at Norrbotten police.
During the course of events of Monday evening the man had thrown a knife at a police officer from a close distance. Police returned fire against the man, who promptly fled, taking refuge in a nearby house.
The man barricaded himself inside the house and the police proceeded to cordon off the immediate vicinity, evacuating five neighbouring properties.
The National Task Force was called in and negotiators were sent to the location.
According to Wahlström the man evaded the police shots and police officers also escaped unscathed from the incident, due to the fact that he was wearing a protective safety vest.
“The knife hit him in the shoulder, but he had a protective vest. It was thrown at him from a close distance.”
The man was ultimately detained close to 4am on Tuesday. He is aged in his forties and is previously known to police.
There are currently no theories as to why the man attacked the police officer.
