Three feared dead after Baltic fishing trip

A fishing trip turned deadly Saturday night after two bodies were found outside Simrishamn in eastern Skåne.

One dead man was found just after 10.30pm Saturday night, according to Air Sea Rescue (Sjöräddnignen). Another body was found Saturday morning.

News agency TT reports the Air Sea Rescue as saying that a trolling boat believed to have had three people on board is missing in the area.

The search for the third person was called off at around 7am Sunday morning. Air Sea Rescue said there was little hope of finding someone alive at this point.

At 9pm Saturday night, people in a sailing boat reported that they had seen a body in the water more than 10 kilometers off the coast of Simrishamn. They informed the Air Sea Rescue who sent out four boats and a helicopter to search for the bodies.

At 10.00 pm Saturday night the first body was found. Around the same time, reported newspaper Expressen, a women in the Falkenberg area told police that her husband and his two fishing friends were missing in Hanö bay.

The three men are thought to have driven their car to Simrishamn and departed from there. The car was later found, empty. The men were troll fishing, a type of fishing when you fish by trailing a baited line behind a moving boat.

The weather conditions on Saturday night were relatively good, but at around lunch time a very heavy fog began to build in the busy boating area.

Police have now taken over the investigation.
