Cocaine killed Swedish beer dynasty heir: father

“His heart could not take any more,” Ulf Spendrup wrote in a letter to the company’s employees, according to the Expressen daily.

Jon Spendrup died in New York City on January 30th after being rushed to hospital. The millionaire brewing heir was 34 years old.

Ulf Spendrup put the cause of his son’s death to his abuse of cocaine, the newspaper reported.

Although Jon Spendrup was elected to the board of the family brewing concern in 2003, he had built his career in the US.

“Jon was loved by many as a son, husband, father, brother and cousin. The worst that could happen has now happened,” Ulf Spendrup said when commenting on his son’s death.

Spendrup died in a hospital in New York and the cause of death has been confirmed by the city coroner, according to the New York Post.

Together with two colleagues, he started the ad agency MD70 in the city three years ago and is reported to have enjoyed some success.

Jon Spendrup, who leaves behind two young children, was one of nine in the younger generation of the Spendrup family and was known as a close friend of Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria, who attended his wedding in May 2005.

Spendrup was buried in the Swedish Church in New York City last Tuesday.
