“There was a train with a departure time of 4.35am which got stuck. As it was about to receive help from another train to evacuate the passengers, that train also got stuck,” Arlanda Express CEO Per Thortensson told the TT news agency.

“During a short period, there were three trains with around 100 hundred passengers on board who were stuck on the tracks,” he said.

The high-speed rail service linking Stockholm with the city’s main Arlanda airport, ground to a complete halt earlier this morning, according to a statement on the company’s web page.

Sweden’s Transport Administration (Trafikverket) confirmed that the the stranded passengers were to continue their journeys by coach.

The night train from Luleå to Gothenburg is also reported to be experiencing problems and was located near Bollnäs at around 7am, some two and a half hours behind schedule, according to the agency.
