Around 350 voluntary first-aid workers from 18 different German Red Cross associations took part in the competition to test their life-saving skills.
The groups had qualified from regional competitions to take part in the finals, which consisted of twelve simulated accident situations. Judges awarded points.
Second place was claimed by the team from Apolda in Mainz-Bingen in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, while third place was won by a group from Rhein-Neckar/Heidelberg in Baden-Württemberg.
The Sondershausen team were the defending champions of the competition, which the Red Cross has been running for 51 years.
