The magazine publishes an annual ranking of all 290 Swedish municipalities based on factors ranging from unemployment to teacher-pupil ratios, property prices number of people on benefits and tax rates.
2007 winner Lund remains near the top alongside fellow Skåne towns Lomma, Vellinge and Kävlinge, while the 2009 winner Danderyd had to make do with 14th this year.
Habo, with a population of 10,000, scored consistently highly in all the categories, coming out top in the category “to be old” and second place in the family-friendly category.
At the other end of the scale was Haparanda in the far north of Sweden, which returned lowly scores in all four categories. But the municipality appeared to take the snub in its stride when the news broke on Thursday.
“Haparanda is a great place to live in, even if the Fokus survey has found otherwise,” Sven-Eric Bucht told the Svenska Daglbadet daily.
Last year’s bottom ranked municipality Munskjö rebounded 20 places in the 2010 survey to 270.
The survey considers a total of 42 variables, from the number of sports associations, to pupil-teacher ratios, to levels of taxation.
In the category “good for young people” Leksand in Dalarna in central Sweden comes out top, while Ydre is the best municipality for families, and Lomma claimed top spot under the “jobs” category.
