Tuesday deadline for UK expat voter registration

Britons abroad have until Tuesday April 20th to register to cast their vote by post or proxy in next month's UK general election.

Tuesday deadline for UK expat voter registration

This is the deadline for post and proxy votes in the election which will be held on May 6th.

Of the 5.5 million Brits living overseas only 13,987 are registered to vote according to the latest figures from the Electoral Commission published in December 2009, amounting to less than 0.25 percent.

The commission has in recent months launched an advertising campaign to encourage more Brits registered overseas to vote in a process that has been criticised in some quarters for being complicated and time-consuming.

All those eligible to vote in the general and local elections can register here.
