“The child is reported to be badly injured. He was taken to Hagstumossen playing fields for transfer to an ambulance helicopter and is now on his way to Stockholm or Uppsala,” said Thomas Jöhnemark at Sörmlands police to news agency TT.
Initial reports indicate that the child’s father was at the wheel of the car when it reversed over the toddler at around midday on Monday.
A police unit from Nyköping was dispatched to the property near Gnesta to investigate the incident.
“He backed the car out of a car port and the child walked in behind the car in an unsupervised moment. The mother was also at the farm but was not nearby,” Jöhnemark said.
The police unit at the farm has classified the incident as an unfortunate accident.
Karolinska University Hospital has confirmed that the child is being treated in the trauma unit at Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital, but was unable to divulge any further information about the child’s condition.
