David Hasselhoff eyeing musical blitzkrieg on Germany

Forever associated with a fleeting pop hit he scored in the euphoria surrounding the fall of the Berlin Wall, the US actor and singer David Hasselhoff is hoping an appearance in German television will reignite his musical career.

Public broadcaster Bayerische Rundfunk reported on Thursday that the 57-year-old former Baywatch star is scheduled to make an appearance on April 24 on Musikantenstadl – a show purveying hokey German folk music and schmaltzy pop.

Hasselhoff will sing his new song “This Time Around” and a medley of other tunes. He will be joined by the show’s host Andy Borg for a duet of “Looking for Freedom,” a song that was briefly popular in Germany after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989.

However, contrary to popular opinion in much of the rest of the world, “The Hoff” was never revered as a Teutonic rock god despite his modest success in the German music charts.
