Warm spring weather expected as short work week begins

Just as the long Easter weekend is over, sunshine and warm temperatures are expected across much of the country, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported on Tuesday.

As Germans return from holiday following a for a four-day workweek, high pressure system “Kuno” will likely bring balmy and dry spring temperatures of up to 20 degrees Celsius to the upper Rhine River region, DWD meteorologist Jens Hoffmann said. Meanwhile western and southwestern parts of the country could enjoy temperatures of between 16 and 18 degrees.

Northeastern Germany, from the Lausitz region up to the Baltic Sea coast, won’t be quite so lucky, though. There temperatures will only hover around 10 to 13 degrees Celsius, Hoffmann said.

Overnight thermometers could register lows down to one degree Celsius, but Wednesday morning will dawn with sunshine as temperatures climb to between 14 and 20 degrees in much of the country.

But residents in the west could see scattered showers – a foreshadowing of more stormy weather to come on Thursday, though temperatures will likely remain mild, Hoffmann said.
