The man, 23, from Staubing in Lower Bavaria, last Monday threatened the personnel recruitment firm where he worked with a fax warning that five explosive devices would be used against them if they didn’t pay up.
Asked by police why he did it, he replied that he “didn’t want to work.”
After the firm called the police last week, sniffer dogs scoured the firm’s premises and found no explosives.
The 23-year-old, who was known to police, was arrested, briefly released for lack of evidence, then arrested again on Thursday, whereupon he made a detailed confession, including the rather pitiable motive.
He has been charged with predatory extortion and remanded in custody.
