Lena to sing for Germany at Eurovision contest

Germany will be represented at the Eurovision Song Contest by Lena Meyer-Landrut, the slightly rockier of the two 18-year-old girls who made it through to the final.

The viewers of Friday night’s casting show ‘Our Star for Oslo’ decided for Meyer-Landrut over her more conventional rival Jennifer Braun to go to Norway for the final on May 29.

Meyer-Landrut seemed close to tears after the decision, saying, “That is so damn amazing, I didn’t expect to be so affected.”

Yet she had been widely seen as the favourite from the start of the show, despite the fact that she had reportedly never sung in public before.

She is described as unconventional and gutsy, winning over the jury with her self-confident attitude and strong voice.

Viewers also decided which song she will sing, and chose one called “Satellite,” which includes passages of spoken text.

The final jury included host Stefan Raab, pop star Xavier Naidoo and the singer from German band Silbermond, Stefanie Kloß, who both said they were impressed by both finalists.
