Plane crashes en route to Sweden

A plane on its way to Sweden crashed on Sunday evening in Germany, south-east of Dresden. According to Dresden police there were at least two pilots onboard. It is unclear whether more passengers were involved.

Emergency services have arrived at the scene of the crash. Due to the difficult terrain no search of the area has been possible during the night. Work will recommence at around 8am, police confirmed.

The plane, a Cessna Citation 550, is an executive jet with space for up to eight people. Air traffic control lost contact with the jet at 8.20pm on Sunday evening. The plane was then flying just south-east of Dresden, near the Czech border.

The aircraft is not Swedish; but is presumed to be a Czech taxi flight heading for Värmland to collect passengers who had been attending the Swedish Rally, according to Annika Vestregård at the Aeronautical Search and Rescue Service (ARCC) to the Aftonbladet newspaper.

The head of Karlstad airport, Peter Landmark, confirmed to Aftonbladet that the plane was heading there to collect passengers.
