With the departure of the low pressure system ”Queen,” a higher pressure system will take effect, bestowing brighter conditions on much of the country.
None of this bodes well for road or pedestrian safety, though.
“In fact the daily change between mild thawing in the day time and frost with fresh slickness in the night will become the norm,” the DWD’s Christoph Hartmann said.
Late on Monday, the west and parts of the north can expect light snow, with top temperatures ranging from -5 degrees to zero.
Tuesday will initially bring clouds and fog in parts of the country. But later in the day, the sun will come out in most of Germany, with only the northwest still covered in thick clouds. Maximum temperatures will generally be between -2 and -4 degrees Celsius.
Overnight Tuesday, it will be mostly clear and dry, leading to cooler temperatures, especially in the southeast where it could drop to -15 degrees.
Wednesday will be a mix of clouds and sunny patches, with thicker clouds in the west, while rain and snow are expected in the southwest. Temperatures will range from -6 degrees in the east to -4 degrees in the west.
