Part of an X2000 express train, which runs between Gothenburg and Stockholm, derailed early on Sunday morning while being towed. The carriages are blocking trains from leaving six platforms at Gothenburg Central train station.
“This will affect all traffic in and out of Gothenburg Central and we don’t know yet how long it will take to resolve,” said Daniel Widlund, a spokesperson for the Swedish Rail Administration (Banverket).
A crane is being moved into place and is expected to clear the lines by 3pm on Sunday.
Until the work is completed, some services will be delayed. Local traffic is particularly affected and northbound trains will not be moving until late afternoon.
Long distance trains towards Stockholm and other major cities have been able to leave the station with only minor delays. Other national and regional train services have not been affected.
