Rockers ‘The Scorpions’ calling it quits

The Scorpions, the heavy-metal group behind hits like "Rock You Like a Hurricane," are unplugging the amps after an upcoming world tour and more than four decades of headbanging.

Rockers 'The Scorpions' calling it quits

“Yeah, we’re ending it,” said the band’s founder, Rudolf Schenker, in an interview with the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

The paper labelled the Scorpions Europe’s most successful hard rock band with more than 100 million albums and CDs sold over the years and more than 3,000 concerts under their belts.

Schenker, who founded the band in 1965 in Hannover, Germany, was influenced by bands such as The Yardbirds. The group released its debut album, Lonesome Crow, in 1972.

After the band releases its next and last album, “Sting In The Tail,” it will embark on a two or three-year tour, according to singer Klaus Meine, before hanging up the guitars for good.

“We’re not getting any younger,” he told the newspaper. “We don’t want to hear our fans start saying ‘back in the day they made great records’.”
