A statement from the Hannover police said parts of a woman’s corpse were found about 3:30 pm on Monday. The authorities called for witnesses to come forward.
Several conspicuous packages was noticed by passersby under the bridge where Ritter-Brüning-Straße crosses the Ihme River.
After officers were called to the scene, they inspected the packages and realised they contained parts of a woman, who was apparently aged 25 to 35.
Police have not yet identified the victim. On Tuesday afternoon, water police were searching the river and its banks near the bridge for other body parts.
In the statement, Hannover police said they were urgently seeking witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, any conspicuous cars parked around the bridge or anyone carrying a heavy object.
