News of the 40-year-old woman’s sacking for theft broke on Friday morning, reported in the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung, along with her intention to challenge the decision by the St Martinshof senior centre.
Manager of the Evangelical umbrella organisation Evangelische Johannesstift Altenhilfe in Berlin, Wilfried Weseman said that although stealing was always wrong, an alternative solution would be sought for the employee.
“Legally the sacking was correct. But the senior service and the Evangelische Johannesstift… are not companies which want to only abide by legal criteria. We as church employers abide by Christian values such as compassion.”
He said that there had been problems with the woman and her job for a long time, and a number of discussions had taken place between the two sides. He said though, that an alternative would be found to sacking the woman.
She has been suspended while discussions are held to find her a different job within the organisation.
