Germany sets up online portal and hotline for swine flu

The German Health Ministry on Wednesday set up a new online portal offering information about swine flu to compliment its no longer free telephone hotline.

The website also provides regional links to Germany’s state health officials in charge of vaccinations likely to start nationwide on October 26.

According to German health officials, children age of six months to nine years should receive two half-doses to avoid possible reactions to the vaccine. People over 60 are recommended to receive two full vaccinations at least three weeks apart.

A special vaccine for pregnant women could be available by the end of November.

The government’s once toll-free hotline has been replaced by a regular number (030/346 465 100) available Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
