The man tried to mow down a motorcycle police officer at high speed, according to local media reports.

The police unit made attempts to stop two cars which had agreed to compete in a race on the E4 motorway.

One of the vehicles obeyed the police request and broke off the race while the other car, driven by the 42-year-old, continued at high speed straight at the police officer.

The officer was very close to being hit and was forced to dodge the speeding vehicle.

The man has now been detained on suspicion of attempted murder.
