The boy is being treated for skull injuries and is being kept on a respirator at Astrid Lindgren’s Childrens Hospital where his condition is not deemed to be life threatening.
He was taken to hospital by air ambulance after landing on stone slabs beneath the balcony.
Police do not suspect foul play. It is believed that the boy took a tumble after climbing up on the balcony railing.
“Nothing has emerged to suggest that this is anything other than an accident,” police spokeswoman Christina Andersson told the TT news agency.
