The man was at a garbage station together with a companion, where they were hunting birds as part of an official cull. The emergency services were alerted, but their frantic resuscitation efforts were in vain. The man’s companion suffered severe shock.
“He had extremely bad luck, as he was in an enclosed area and the entrance gate was locked, so it took a long time for the emergency services to get to him,” said Morgan Connedal, officer in command with Värmlands Police.
The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) had issued a Class 1 weather warning on Friday, covering all areas between between Kalmar county and Värmland.
Wild weather lashed much of south-central Sweden on Friday afternoon, with powerful electrical storms reported in many areas, and reports of property damage and some minor injuries. The emergency services received 10 to 15 alarms in quick succession, with the most common reported problem water-filled cellars.
