Cyber attack shuts down June List website

The June List (Junilistan) party website was shut down for several hours on Friday due to a cyber attack, according to party press secretary Björn Jonasson.

“At first we thought that the site was overloaded. Then we discovered that the site had been attacked,” he told TT.

Jonasson said that the attack was traced to the IP address associated with a computer at Södertörn University College.

“It hit our homepage several hundred times per second, and the site couldn’t recover and shut down. When the IP address was removed, it worked again,” he said.

This isn’t the first time that the site has experienced problems. Several days ago, something was wrong and visitors were unable to load the page.

“The answer we got was that it was overloaded, but now we are wondering if something else has actually been going on. We don’t want to be unnecessarily conspiratorial, but this is really not good,” he said regarding the EU-parliamentary elections on Sunday.

“Everyone knows that these last few days are critical, especially if you are in the situation that we are.”

The June List party has contacted Södertörn to find out more details about what happened when the site crashed. The party is also trying to find technical solutions to avoid further attacks over the weekend.

“We are also going to stay on our toes and make sure that everything runs smoothly, so that we discover things in time,” Jonasson said.
