The shooting drama took place on Fatbursgatan near Södra Station at 5.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Police at first believed that the woman had been the victim of the shooting but it emerged that she had in fact shot herself while arguing with two men.
The woman was accompanied by another person when she was hit by at least one shot to the thigh. A police unit was in the vicinity and was quickly on the scene.
“The woman and her companion had met two men and an argument occurred. She presumably tried to shoot one of the men, but instead happened to shoot herself,” Hans Wiksten at Stockholm police said to news agency TT.
The woman was rushed to Karolinska University Hospital in Solna in an ambulance and police launched a massive operation involving 14 units.
As new details emerged the woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and her companion called in for questioning.
The two men involved in the argument were arrested in Fatbursparken and are suspected of intent to commit serious assault.
“Witnesses have seen the men bearing a golf club or some similar form of weapon,” Wiksten said.
Wiksten was unable to confirm any motive for the attack.
