Opposition makes comeback in new poll

According to the new voter barometer poll by Sifo if an election were held today the four Alliance government parties would claim 45.1 percent of the vote to the opposition’s 48.7 percent. The gap has increased by 2.4 percentage points since the previous survey in April.

Voter sympathies according to party were as follows: Left party 5.8 percent (+0.5), Social Democrats 34.8 (+0.2), Green party 8.1 (-0.5), Centre party 5.8, Liberal party 6.4 (-0.4), the Moderates 28.8 (-1.8), Christian Democrats 4.1 (+0.8).

The far-right Sweden Democrats were unchanged at 3 percent while “other parties” collected 3.3 percent, up 1.8 points since April.

Sifo interviewed 1,898 voters between 4th-14th May and asked which party they would vote for if an election were held today. The voter barometer was published in Svenska Dagbladet and regional newspapers on Sunday.

The government is reported to have lost support among the group of voters under 30-years-old. In April 31.2 percent of this group expressed support for the government while in May this number had dropped to 25.2 percent.

The ban on file-sharing and the controversial FRA surveillance law are explained by Toivo Sjörén at Sifo to have had an impact on government support within this group, according to comments in Göteborgs-Posten.
