“Everything is working again just fine,” T-Mobile spokesperson Georg Pölzl told broadcaster ZDF Wednesday morning, adding that by 8 pm on Tuesday evening, about 80 percent of the company’s mobile services were back on track.

The company took additional measures overnight to insure the network continued to function, he said.

The outage disrupted wireless, SMS, and data services service for millions of customers in Germany beginning around 3:45 pm.

“We are naturally still working on the researching the causes,” Pölzl told ZDF, adding that such things “should not and ought not happen.”

Two of three Home Location Register (HLR) servers, which Pölzl called the “brain” of the mobile telephone network, were affected in the outage, leading the company to explore possible software errors.

T-Mobile, which reported nearly 40 million customers in 2008, is the country’s largest mobile phone network provider.
