The two women arrested with Svartenbrandt on Thursday morning have been released, Dalarna police have confirmed.

“They were released this afternoon,” Mattias Skarp at Dalarna police said on Saturday evening.

Skarp said that he could not confirm but that he presumed that the women – arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and protection of a known criminal respectively – were still under suspicion despite their release.

63-year-old Svartenbrandt, considered one of the most dangerous criminals in Sweden, was however requested by the prosecutor to be remanded into custody on charges of armed robbery on Saturday.

A hearing was held at Borlänge police station at 1pm on Sunday, Mattias Skarp confirmed.

According to the police all three of the suspects have denied the offences.

The arrests of Svartenbrandt and one the women occurred just before 6 am on Thursday morning on a motorway close to Hagfors. According to police, the arrest was uneventful.

The second woman was arrested at around the same time in an apartment in Hagfors.

The robbery occurred at Swedbank in Säter on Wednesday when two armed men forced their way into the branch of the bank and seized a sum of money.

The pair fled the scene in a car which was later found on a deserted forest trail some 10 kilometres from the Säter.

Police have not yet given any indication of the identity of the other robber.

Svartenbrandt’s rap sheet includes a 1999 shooting of a police officer in Linköping and a 2003 robbery of a Systembolaget alcohol retail outlet in Söderhamn, where one person was taken hostage.

In January, Svartenbrandt was charged with aggravated robbery, gross theft, unlawful entry, narcotics-related offences and knife possession.

Two men wearing balaclavas and gloves entered the Peninsula hotel, just a stone's throw from the Arc de Triomphe, shortly after midnight and held employees at gunpoint, police sources said.

One of the attackers then used an axe to break into four display cases, making off with items worth a total of €350,000 to €400,000.

An accomplice then drove them away in a car that was found burning shortly afterwards in the suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, west of the capital.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in the robbery, the sources said.

France's organised crime brigade has taken over the inquiry.

Luxury Paris hotels have been the target of several robberies in recent years, as have jewellery stores and wealthy tourists visiting the city.

In January 2018, three men were charged over an audacious yet unsuccessful jewellery heist at the Ritz, after they were thwarted by locked doors as they tried to flee.

Last September, three Russian tourists were robbed of thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry and luxury clothing shortly after landing at a Paris airport reserved for private jets.
