A man has also been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to the head.
One of the women was 59 years old. Speaking at a press conference at Halmstad police station on Wednesday afternoon, police would not divulge the age of the second woman other than to confirm that she was “an adult”.
The injured man, 45, is officially suspected of murder.
Police said there was also a fourth person in the apartment, a man, who is in a state of shock and has not yet been questioned.
A motive for the shooting is not yet known and police would not disclose the relationship of the four people involved.
The 45-year-old man was rushed to Lund University Hospital with life-threatening head injuries.
“He has a severe gunshot wound to his head with major internal bleeding. The most important thing after the x-ray examination will be to put a stop to the bleeding,” said hospital spokesman Per Längby.
A neighbour told news agency TT that the family had lived in the apartment for fifteen years, adding that “pure chaos” had descended on the apartment block’s courtyard just after the shooting incident, as police units arrived and the area was sealed off.
Police have begun knocking on doors in the area as the investigation gets underway.
“We’re putting all our resources into this investigation,” said police spokesman Bengt Nilsson.
