Largest Hindu temple in northern Germany opens in Hannover

At least 1,000 Hindus gathered in Hannover on Sunday to celebrate the inauguration of the biggest Hindu temple in northern Germany.

A fire ceremony was started before the sun came up, with around 300 believers showing up for that.

The streets around the Sri Muthumariamman temple were filled with music as groups arrived in celebratory mood, transforming the industrial estate on the Carl-Bruderus street.

Chairman of the temple association, Logeswaran Kuddithamby, said he expected up to 2,000 believers and guests for the evening ceremonies and celebrations.
