Education Minister Annette Schavan has been working with Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble and the government’s integration representative Maria Böhmer, to work on the idea, according to a report in Der Spiegel magazine.
A working group will link the education ministry and state education ministers, who have responsibility for education policy in their regions – although the federal government regulates teaching qualifications.
Among the ideas being examined to make it easier for immigrants to become teachers is making it easier for qualifications achieved abroad to be recognised in Germany.
