Oliver Khan, the former goalkeeper of the German national football team and FC Bayern Munich, looks set to be named as the new manager of Schalke 04 after a lengthy meeting with club officials on Thursday.

“Kahn is a good guy with a huge capacity for work,” said Schalke chairman Clemens Tönnies after their three-hour meeting. “We knocked the details off quickly, a concept has been discussed and we have a full agreement.”

“We will speak again in two to three weeks by telephone,” added Tönnies, who will now consult Schalke’s executive committee.

Other candidates linked to the job include Germany’s current team manager Oliver Bierhoff, ex-Hamburg coach Huub Stevens and current Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath.

But 39-year-old Kahn is the favourite and has already had several meetings in Gelsenkirchen to discuss replacing Andreas Müller, who was sacked last week.

“Above all, I want to work with a team,” Kahn told the website of German newsmagazine Der Spiegel. “I consider this very interesting, but whether one actually takes a position depends on many factors and facets.”

Kahn, who captained Germany in the 2002 World Cup final, retired from the German Football League at the end of last season, having led Bayern Munich to the German league title and German Cup double.

Since quitting football, Kahn has turned his attention to talent scouting and recently cut a trip to China short to meet with Toennies.

VIDEO: Spain’s La Liga reviews video of boy racially abusing Vinicius

Spain's La Liga on Monday said it was reviewing a video of a child making racist insults towards Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend.

“We’re in the process of studying and analysing the facts from a legal standpoint to see what we can and should do,” La Liga sources said.

In a video published by a journalist for ESPN Brasil, and picked up by Spanish media, a boy sitting in a woman’s lap can be heard calling Vinicius a “monkey”.

The Brazilian scored twice for Madrid as his team recovered from two goals down at Mestalla on Saturday.

Vinicius raised his fist in a “Black Power” salute after the first of his two goals at a ground where he was racially abused last season. Valencia subsequently banned three people from the stadium for life.

The 23-year-old has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions, and he was jeered repeatedly by home supporters on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was sent off after the final whistle against Valencia for protesting after the referee blew the final whistle right before the England midfielder headed home what he thought was the winning goal.
