Daniel Westling takes Victoria Day bow

Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria celebrated her name-day at the royal palace in Stockholm on Thursday. Her husband to be, Daniel Westling, was in attendance for the first time.

The Swedish public was out in force to congratulate Victoria and to get a glimpse of the future Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötaland – the title that he will assume on marrying the heir to the Swedish throne.

Daniel Westling’s appearance at the public celebrations is notable as it is his first official engagement since the announcement of the couple’s engagement on February 24th.

The royal couple were greeted by a grey, overcast day in the Swedish capital but the miserable weather was not enough to deter well-wishers, or the press.

Cameras were focused as much on Daniel, standing near Queen Silvia, several metres behind the crown princess, as the army music corps played a tribute.

Neither King Carl XVI Gustaf nor any of Victoria’s siblings, Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl-Philip, were in attendance.

Daniel Westling’s first day in the post-engagement limelight is not over as he will this evening accompany Victoria for their first grand banquet at the Stockholm palace.
