On Tuesday, the northeast will see pockets of sunshine early, but the region will also get a mix of precipitation. Heavy cloud cover in the west will bring solid rain, which will reach Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and southern Brandenburg by the evening. There will be snow at elevations over 500 metres. Temperatures will range from two to eight degrees Celsius.
It will snow for extended periods along the Alps on Wednesday – also at lower elevations. Southeastern Bavaria will almost certainly get a last blast of winter. Otherwise, much the country can expect a nasty mix of rain, snow and sleet. Only in the northwest will see a bit of sunshine with temperatures between three and 10 degrees.
By Thursday, Old Man Winter’s last gasp will begin to weaken as temperatures climb to 11 degrees along the Rhine River. The snowfall line will rise to elevations above 800 metres. But sunshine will play hide-and-seek with another rain front coming in from the west.
