The explosion occurred in the Forstenried district of the Bavarian capital, and witnesses reported seeing three detonations within the eight-storey building, which erupted into flames after the blasts.
The two victims from the building’s fifth floor were so badly burned that police have not been able to identify them, meanwhile five others – including a police officer and a fire fighter – sustained minor injuries in the accident.
Rescue workers brought some 25 residents of neighbouring apartment buildings to safety without injury.
Authorities said they have not yet tallied the estimated damages of the accident.
