“He refused to say who gave him the heroin or where he was delivering it,” a police spokesperson said.
But strict laws in Taiwan mean that the man now faces the death penalty and the Deutsches Institut, which acts as an unofficial proxy there, has sent a lawyer to represent the man.
Germany doesn’t have official diplomatic ties to Taiwan because it adheres to Beijing’s one-China policy. The Chinese government considers the democratic island a renegade province.
