Rising US star Sacha Kljestan scored a hattrick on Saturday as a makeshift Swedish side lost 3-2 to their hosts in Los Angeles.

Sweden falls to United States in winter friendly

The winter friendly was part of the US preparation for their upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifier against Mexico.

Kljestan, 23, scored in the 17th, converted a penalty in the 40th and completed his hat trick in the 74th – notching his first three international goals.

Kljestan, who had two goals for the United States at the Olympics in Beijing, opened the scoring by firing a free kick over the wall and past Swedish goalkeeper Johan Dahlin.

After Marvell Wynne was tripped inside the penalty area, Kljestan took the penalty kick and beat Dahlin to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage.

Daniel Nannskog cut Sweden’s deficit to 2-1 in the 73rd minute, but Kljestan responded a minute later, taking a pass from Brian Ching and firing home with his left foot.

Mikael Dahlberg added another goal for Sweden in the 89th minute, heading a

cross past US keeper Troy Perkins.

The match was a tune up for the United States ahead of their World Cup qualifying clash against Mexico, which will be played in Columbus, Ohio, on February 11.

Sweden will take on Mexico in another friendly next Wednesday in Oakland, California, before heading home to continue World Cup qualifying in Europe.

Spain's La Liga on Monday said it was reviewing a video of a child making racist insults towards Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend.

“We’re in the process of studying and analysing the facts from a legal standpoint to see what we can and should do,” La Liga sources said.

In a video published by a journalist for ESPN Brasil, and picked up by Spanish media, a boy sitting in a woman’s lap can be heard calling Vinicius a “monkey”.

The Brazilian scored twice for Madrid as his team recovered from two goals down at Mestalla on Saturday.

Vinicius raised his fist in a “Black Power” salute after the first of his two goals at a ground where he was racially abused last season. Valencia subsequently banned three people from the stadium for life.

The 23-year-old has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions, and he was jeered repeatedly by home supporters on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was sent off after the final whistle against Valencia for protesting after the referee blew the final whistle right before the England midfielder headed home what he thought was the winning goal.
