Two in hospital after motorway crash with elk

Two cars were damaged and two people are recovering in hospital after an elk’s unsuccessful attempt to get across the E6 motorway in western Sweden.

A man and a woman in their sixties were taken to hospital after a violent crash with an elk shortly after 9:00pm Sunday evening outside of Halmstad.

The accident came shortly after the elk had crossed the middle of the road after being hit by another car that had been travelling in the opposite direction.

No one was injured in the first impact.

“Then the elk went over the middle line and gets hit again; this time it was worse. The car was more or less totaled,” said Leif Berglund of the Halland police.

The man and the woman were taken to Halmstad hospital with mild injuries.

There were no reports on the condition of the elk.
