On Wednesday, staff at the facility discovered a stack of mail piled up outside the woman’s mailbox.
When they entered the apartment they found the woman dead.
While the woman lived in a special facility designed to provide easy access to various services, she did not receive regular home visits or any other form of supervision from local welfare authorities.
“But we can’t absolve ourselves of responsibility for the living facility,” said Per Jonsson, head of the municipality’s elderly care division, to the TT news agency.
The municipality has held a press conference and called in a crisis group to inform and support other residents, relatives, and staff.
Officials also opened a telephone helpline to which relatives can call with any questions.
Police say they do not currently suspect foul play.
