Voters in show of faith for Reinfeldt

Voter confidence for Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is on the increase, a new poll has indicated.

55 percent of the electorate expressed a preference for Reinfeldt while only 33 percent preferred Mona Sahlin, according to the new Sifo survey.

In the previous poll, commissioned by PR firm Westander in August, 46 percent of voters expressed a preference for Reinfeldt. In three months voter confidence in the Swedish prime minister has therefore increased by a full 9 percent.

The opposition Social Democrat leader Mona Sahlin is lagging far behind the prime minister in the voter confidence stakes. In August she could claim the support of 35 percent of the electorate but in the latest poll voter confidence had declined by 2 percent to 33 percent.

Reinfeldt’s lead has therefore increased from 11 to 12 percentage points.

12 percent of respondents replied that they were unsure or declined to express a preference.

Furthermore 23 percent of those indicating a preference for one of the left bloc parties had a greater confidence for Moderate leader Reinfeldt than Sahlin. In return only 3 percent of Alliance party voters expressed a preference for Sahlin.

The Sifo survey was undertaken from November 10th to 13th and asked 1,000 people the question: “Who do you feel the greatest confidence for, Fredrik Reinfeldt or Mona Sahlin?”
