The Local – making translation easier

An innovative new service from The Local will allow readers to find the Swedish translation of any word on the site with a simple mouse click.

The Local - making translation easier

The new service, launched on Thursday, has been developed in cooperation with Tyda, a user-generated online Swedish-English dictionary. Readers can double click on any word in any article on The Local to open a new window with Tyda’s Swedish translation of that word.

“So many of our readers are learning Swedish, so we thought this would be a fun way to help them improve their skills,” said Paul O’Mahony, editor of The Local.

Swedish readers of The Local should also find the new tool useful, as should other non-native English-speaking readers – as well as offering Swedish translations, Tyda gives brief definitions of English words.

“It’s a lot easier than reaching for a dictionary,” said Paul O’Mahony.

“This is the first time a service like this has been offered on a Swedish website,” he added.

Tommy Svensson, CEO of Tyda, said he was delighted with the new partnership: “This really is a perfect match, and it’s great that Tyda will be used in such a relevant context,” he said.
