The woman was raped in bushes by the side of St. Knuts väg in central Malmö at around 3am on Sunday morning. Two local residents were able to witness the rape from their apartment windows and could alert the police.
“A woman awoke, looked out of her window and called her neighbour. They then called the police together and we were able to react,” said Bo Paulsson at Malmö police to local newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet.
The police arrived quickly at the scene and were able to arrest a 26-year-old man who was interrogated on Sunday morning and is being held on suspicion of rape.
Paulsson revealed that the woman and man were acquainted.
“It was not assault and rape by an unknown assailant. They know each other from before and have previously had a short relationship,” he said.
The woman was taken to Malmö University Hospital for examination.
