The ship carrying German military forces left from Wilhelmshaven to begin a six month deployment to help the US mission against terrorism in the region. The boat will stand guard off the coast of the Horn of Africa, the German Marines reported from Glücksburg.

In January the craft, built to chase U-boats, will become the lead ship at the head of the security fleet in the area.
