Environmental group Greenpeace discovered traces of pesticide in the Spice Islands brand of “mild paprika” in a study, the company announced late on Tuesday from its headquarters in Hamburg. The amount of pesticide is above the amount allowed by food regulations, and the company said it had encouraged the spice manufacturer to recall the product entirely.

Paprika is among the most beloved spices in German kitchens.

The Edeka Group is Germany’s largest supermarket corporation with some 4,100 stores across the country.
