Stockholm weekend club guide: September 19 - 20

FRIDAY

80s

Address: Riddarkällaren, Södra Riddarholmshamnen 19

10pm – 3am

100 kronor

Age: 18 and over

Enjoying its 11th year on the Stockholm clubscape, 80s has once again switched venues and decided to establish itself at the large Riddarkällaren venue for the foreseeable future.

The concept is of course the same as it has always been: all sorts of eighties music. From synth pop to indie, goth, rock, Italian disco, chart hits and more or less any name you can recall from the pink decade.

So for goodness sake don’t forget to dress up in your eighties gear.

A black hairsprayed fringe or pink leg-warmers will also do the trick.

The club’s residents go by the names DJ Life and Pauli. There are occasional special guests and 80s also sometimes holds tribute evenings for a particular eighties icon or band.

Tonight

Major 11th birthday party with bubbly, movies, surprises and countless 80s hits served up by residents DJ Life & Pauli Sudra, along with guest DJ Loco from Breakfast Club.

Breathless

Address: Bonden Bar, Bondegatan 1

8pm – 1am

Free entry

Website

Old favourite Breathless has dusted itself off and set up shop down in the recently refurbished Bonden Bar cellar. DJ FilmFredrik is in place every Friday to play everything from Pixies to Peaches, The Kinks to The Knife, Sonic Youth to The Smiths and Modest Mouse to Magnetic Fields. And much, much more of course.

Tonight

Indie soul poppers Strawberry Fair will be playing a live set at around 9pm and FilmFredrik will be joined in the DJ booth by Johan Jacobsson from Sonic.

On Our Honeymoon

Address: Alcazar, David Bagares Gata 15

10pm – 2am

80 kronor

Age: 18 and over

Website

The Alcazar back door bar at the classic old Nalen venue plays host to pop club On Our Honeymoon, whose aim is to present the newest and most interesting music, far removed from tired old indie hits, beer spills and teenage drunkenness. The music takes pride of place both on the stage and in the DJ booth, with songs featured that might never get an airing elsewhere in Stockholm.

Tonight

Sincerely Yours’ one-man band The Honeydrips and Gothenburg jangle band Tellus About The Moon play live, while Arvid & Ron do the DJ honours with a mix of indie pop, Italo, house, post punk and some good old disco.

Blondie

Address: Knast, Upplandsgatan 7

9pm – 1am

Free entry

Age: 18 and over

Down among the graffiti-covered stone walls, the candlelit darkness, thick dry ice, red leather sofas and curious images of skeletons and popes, Stockholm legend Tommie X opens the doors every Friday night to his wonderfully decadent club, Blondie.

The club is a coming together of the gays and the fag hags, the media old timers and the nineteen year old barflies, bewigged anorexic monsters and confused but happy indie poppers and fashionistas.

There is room for everybody here, whether you want to dance ’til you sweat to life-affirming eurodisco or sit and make out in the black sofas.
