Luke Perry hops in the sauna for new Swedish film

Filming has started in Sweden on a new movie featuring American actor and former teenage heartthrob Luke Perry, best known for his portrayal of Dylan McKay on the hit television show Beverly Hills 90210.

The film, entitled Midsommerfesten (‘Midsummer Party’), is a Swedish-American romantic comedy in which Perry plays Sam, an American actor who is invited to partake in one of Sweden’s most famous traditions.

And after only a short time in the country, Perry seems to have had many of his preconceptions about many Sweden’s beauties confirmed.

“There really are a bunch of tall, blonde women here, and I’ve had a nice time in the sauna,” Perry told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

“Shit, it’s beautiful here,” he added as he pointed to the view from his hotel room.

“I guarantee you that I’m coming back to Trosa,” referring to the small Swedish town about 70 kilometres south of Stockholm where filming began last week.

The town is known for its self-effacing motto, “Trosa: världens ände”, which in Swedish can mean both “the end of the world” or “the world’s rear end”.

In Swedish, ‘trosa’ is also the singular form of the word for panties, something which caused Perry to chuckle when he was told he was staying in a town synonymous with women’s underwear.

“What? And no one told me?! Ha, that is really funny,” he said to the newspaper.

Perry also reflected on his days as the moody bad boy Dylan McKay, a roll which defined his career and for which he is still most widely known.

“I’m going to be linked with him until I die, but that’s actually just fine. I created Dylan McKay. He’s mine,” said Perry.

Midsommerfesten is scheduled for release in 2009, and is directed by American Ian McCrudden.
