Sweden victorious at home against Hungary

Sweden's top footballers came to life after a sluggish first half, notching two goals to secure a much needed 2-1 win against Hungary in its second World Cup qualifier.

Midfielder Kim Källström struck first, heading home the first goal off of a sailing cross delivered by team captain Henrik Larsson in the 55th minute.

It was a much needed spark for Sweden, which had been unable to find the goal in the opening half, prompting the 28,000 fans at Råsunda stadium outside of Stockholm to boo the squad as they headed off the field at the break.

After a disappointing 0-0 draw in Albania on Saturday, Sweden was in desperate need of a victory at home in order to keep its World Cup hopes alive.

Larsson again worked his magic to add to Sweden’s lead in the 64th minute when he sent a fine pass to midfielder Samuel Holmén, a new addition to the starting lineup, who proved his worth by netting Sweden’s second goal of the evening.

Hungary managed to slip in a late goal in extra time just before the final whistle when a ball bounced off the chest of substitute Gergely Rudolf.

Spain's La Liga on Monday said it was reviewing a video of a child making racist insults towards Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend.

“We’re in the process of studying and analysing the facts from a legal standpoint to see what we can and should do,” La Liga sources said.

In a video published by a journalist for ESPN Brasil, and picked up by Spanish media, a boy sitting in a woman’s lap can be heard calling Vinicius a “monkey”.

The Brazilian scored twice for Madrid as his team recovered from two goals down at Mestalla on Saturday.

Vinicius raised his fist in a “Black Power” salute after the first of his two goals at a ground where he was racially abused last season. Valencia subsequently banned three people from the stadium for life.

The 23-year-old has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions, and he was jeered repeatedly by home supporters on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was sent off after the final whistle against Valencia for protesting after the referee blew the final whistle right before the England midfielder headed home what he thought was the winning goal.
