The murder took place in Eskilstuna in central Sweden and the man turned himself in to police following the attack, which took place in front of the woman’s two children, ages two and four.
The man had asked to have the killing classified as manslaughter and wanted to be sentenced to psychiatric care instead of prison, but the appeals court instead affirmed the district court’s ruling of life in prison for murder.
The man and the woman had had a relationship for six months when he attacked and killed her in her apartment in March.
