“Water pipes are the alcopops of the new generation,” Felix Herth, head of the study for the Thorax Clinic in Heidelberg, told the paper.
Every fourth German child, with an average age of 13, has used a water pipe or hookah to smoke shisha, a moist and sweet tobacco.
The study questioned 3,000 young people between the ages of 12 and 15.
The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BFR) warns that smoking tobacco from water pipes causes more health risks than smoking filterless cigarettes.
Smoking shisha has the “same addiction and illness potential” as cigarettes, Herth told the magazine.
