The Chancellor of Justice (JK) ruled on Thursday that to be denied access to pornographic magazines in a prison cell can not be considered a rights violation. The precedent was set in a ruling which denied the convicted rapist’s claim to 200,000 kronor ($32,598).
The man had sued the Swedish Prison and Probation Service (Kriminalvården) after his collection of pornographic magazines had been confiscated.
The Chancellor of Justice directed criticism at the prisons service over the confiscation of the man’s magazines which had in fact been in breach of existing legislation.
Changes to the law in 2006 mean that the service is however now within its legal rights to deny the man access to pornography.
