Swedish artist designs Thai village

Ernst Billgren, one of Sweden’s most popular and versatile modern artists, has designed a housing project called Sea Hill which is under construction on the shores of the Andaman Sea, north of the resort island Phuket in Thailand, Dagens Nyheter reports.

Together with the Swedish architectural firm NOD, Nature Oriented Design, the artist is creating a development comprised of some 150 housing units.

One unusual feature of the project will be an elephant escalator which can carry residents to the top of a hill.

“I don’t know how practical it will be but there is something appealing about the idea of sitting in your own jungle garden in the morning and watching an elephant walk by,” Billgren told Dagens Nyheter.
